ⓘ Kumamoto 4th district

Kumamoto 4th district is a current single-member electoral district for the House of Representatives, the lower house of the National Diet of Japan. It is located in Kumamoto and since 2017 covers roughly the Southern half of Kumamoto.

Until 2013, it consisted of a small part of the capital of the Prefecture of Kumamoto Tomiai former cities and Jōnan in current Minami-ku, cities Amakusa, UTO, Kami-Amakusa and uki and other cities and villages of the former Amakusa, on the top of Kami-Mashiki and lower Mashiki, Shimo-Mashiki districts. As of September 2012, right 294.547 voters living in the district.

Until 1996, this area was part of the four members of Kumamoto the 2nd quarter. Representatives were included Sunao Sonoda DPJ→RAP→progressive→RPS→LDP, 1947-1984 and his son the LDP Hiroyuki→NPH, 1986-1996. Hiroyuki Sonoda, Deputy Secretary General of the Cabinet of Ministers during the LDP-SSP-NPH coalition has won a new single-member 4th quarter six times in a row after the reform of the electoral system. In several elections, he was not even challenged by the candidate of the major parties of the opposing bloc, the deletion of the first elections in 1996 and "Postal election" 2005. In 2012, neither of the two major parties contested place. Sonodas main contender in 2012, Masayoshi Yagami, was the liberal Democrat website jnp→LO→LDP, when he represented the neighboring 5th district in the 1990s, but became an independent for his two terms as mayor Sagara and it did not run for Governor of the city in 2008.
