ⓘ Kyoto 5th district

Kyōto 5th district is a constituency of the House of Representatives in the Diet of Japan. It is located in Kyōto and covers the northwestern part of the prefecture on the Sea of Japan coast. The district consists of the cities of Fukuchiyama, Maizuru, Ayabe, Miyazu and Kyōtango as well as the Yosa District. As of 2012, 254.636 eligible voters were registered in the district.

Before the electoral reform of 1994, the area was part of Kyotos 2nd district where five representatives was elected in single transferable vote.

The only representative of the 5th district was Sadakazu Tanigaki of the LDP, Tanigaki faction→Koga, who has previously represented the old 2nd quarter with his fathers death in 1983. In 2009, the 5th district was the only district in Kyoto, the LDP was able to protect against landslide for Yukio Hatoyamas the Democratic party. Tanigakis Democratic contender may Ohara lost the district by 7.000 votes, but easily won a seat in the PR list kinky. After the election that swept the LDP from power, Tanigaki was elected President of the LDP. During his stay the opposition won the majority in the house 2010 election advisers. After one term, he did not run for re-election as party Chairman. In the House of representatives 2012 election, which brought devastating consequences for the Democratic party for a record low turnout across the country, Tanigaki lost a few votes and clearly defended his County. Tanigaki received a spinal cord injury in a Bicycle accident in July 2016, and stayed in the hospital, and in September 2017, he decided not to run in the 2017 General election because of his physical condition.
